Do you know where your customers are coming from? (part 1)
Did you know that most business owners do not even know where and how their customers are finding them online? Perhaps you may even know one of these business owners very closely. There’s so many places online for your customers to find you and your website, be it directory listings, partner websites, pay per click and social properties to name a few. But do you know exactly which ones are bringing in customers and which ones aren’t? This is important especially If you’re implementing pay per click or paying for other advertising such as YP.com. There many cost-effective ways to start tracking where your potential customers are coming from and how they are convert thing into paying customers. Here are some tips on how to find out what’s working and what is not working so you can redirect your efforts to the things that are working. PPC If you’re using pay per click advertising it is an absolute must that you track your clicks by either sending a customers to a specific landing page on your website that is congruent with the theme of your pay per click ad or if there’s a phone number in your ad make sure is a phone number that is dedicated to that pay per click campaign. Now when you start collecting this data from your ad campaigns you can see which ads are actually making your phone ring or sending visitors that are turning into customers which will let you discontinue the ads that are just wasting your money and take that money and put it towards the ads that are actually working. I personally use Twilio for my phone numbers and call tracking but there many other services out there. Twilio is very reasonable at around a dollar per month per number and one cent per minute and you can have these calls for a right to your direct incoming line. If you don’t want to build landing pages directly onto your website you can always use a service such as lead pages to host your landing pages, this is a great option especially if your website is not mobile ready because lead pages are already mobile ready And will give your company a more up to date appearance and will be easily readable for mobile devices. These two things alone will give you great insight on where your customers are coming from and what is bringing them to your site.
